Have I told you about ooVoo
lately?
I don’t work for the company and there’s no financial incentive for me to promote this, but I’m going to tell you about ooVoo because it’s an amazing tool for communication over the internet.
I first used ooVoo when I participated in “My ooVoo Chat” back in February of this year. A short video featuring the conversations (including mine) can be seen here: My ooVoo Day Recap.
Since then, I’ve used it to conduct business and chat with friends. During one BookHands meeting, we used ooVoo to connect with a BookHands member in another state.
Yesterday, I discovered yet another neat use of ooVoo–internet access!
Let me explain.
I was on Twitter and explaining that I attempted to lipread my way through the Today show interview online about Moms who blog as it wasn’t captioned. There was a lot of Twitter chatter about Heather Armstrong, a featured blogger and the interaction with Kathie Lee Gifford on the show.
Out of the blue, Codadiva, twittered:
We connected on ooVoo and she interpreted the entire video segment. How cool was that? A big thanks!
Here’s to ooVoo and all the connections that are possible with it.

You are welcome! It’s amazing what technology we have, it’s too bad oovoo isn’t compatible with Mac fully, at least I don’t think. I love video conferencing!
i love oovoo. i use it almost daily at work and at home. it is great stuff.
to codadivia, oovoo does accept MAC. my friends and i chat on oovoo. no plm. try that.
I love using ooVoo, too. I use it with my friends…we can chat together ….only up to six people at one time. It’s really nice 🙂

It’s funny that you would post about Oovoo. I’m very eager to get this system set up once I get my webcam from i711.
I want to THANK YOU for inspiring me to get technologically up to speed with respect to ways I can communicate with other people (i.e. phone via i711, video conferencing on the Internet, etc). The future holds many exciting possibilities!

okay I decided to be brave and ask u something. I noticed that you workd in early interventation as well a blog related to ASD? do you familiar with ASD or its sort? I ask b/c someone very dearly to me shows signs of being on ASD. If rather not reply back. I guess I am looking for some support so i would not feel all alone. But, that’s ok 🙂

You can go through the checklist that is on my first post listed but it sounds like you have some concerns about your friend. Have you shared those concerns in a gentle way?
I love oovoo too! I am on it at least a half a dozen times a week with at least 3-4 people. It is so much fun! We sign to each and because of that I am picking up quite a bit.

Karen, I’m feeling dumb – could you explain to me how oovoo helps gets past the hearing impaired barrier?
I installed oovoo after Rick Mahn showed it to me at Sobcon – just got to try the webcam – bit nervous about that bit! – then I’ll look forward to connecting up with my friends around the world.

Great, let me know when you’re ready for a call! ooVoo lets you type as well as talk. So if I can’t lipread a person, they can write as well.
down here in Mexico we communicate via oovoo and skype also has been great when oovoo has given us problems
