How Do You Want to Finish Off 2018?

The week of Thanksgiving is always the week that reminds me of how quickly the year flew by. This happens every year. I feel a sense of urgency to do the things I set out to do in the beginning of the year–the things I procrastinated because I thought I had lots of time.

When my kids were really little, my mother-in-law always told me that motherhood would go by “in the blink of an eye.” That was back when five minutes felt like a year–and all I longed for was a few seconds of peace and quiet so that I could shower long enough to actually wash my body.

But I blinked…and the kids grew up.

I’m afraid if I blink again, the years will spin even faster.

So I’m learning to live with intention and to be more mindful of my time. I’m still impulsively saying “yes” to things that suck away time so I’m learning to pause before I respond to a request.

What really makes time stand still is the ability to truly be “in” the moments that you’re experiencing. It’s the process of living with intention instead of reacting through life.  As 2018 starts to wind down, you can actually ramp up your living by evaluating “how” you want to live.

  • How do you want to spend the last weeks of the year?
  • What projects/experiences do you want to complete?
  • What’s not serving you well–what can you “let go of?”
  • What is something new you can learn?
  • Who do you want to connect with?

If you’ve spent the year reacting to things that are happening instead of being the catalyst–you can turn things around by creating new habits, new routines, and new experiences, all with intention. Whether you do a major pivot or a baby step in a new direction, that simple tweak can make all the difference in whether you end 2018 with a smile or a sigh.

And here’s a tip:

Instead of waiting until January 1st to begin the year with new goals and resolutions, start right now to make the shift in a passionate direction. Here are two courses to get you on your way:
